John Zahry
John Zahry - Insurance Agent with Public Service Background
Based in Santa Maria, California, John Zahry has nearly three decades of public safety and leadership experience. He spent 27 years with the Kern County Probation Department, starting out in 1994 as a deputy probation officer and rising through the ranks to become probation division director. As director, John “JJ” Zahry oversaw a 70-person team, managing human resources while also supervising juveniles and adults on probation to the court. He further helped develop innovative programs, including the department's first apprehension team.
After leaving Kern County Probation Department in 2021 JJ Zahry joined the insurance industry, where he continues to work. As an independent insurance agent representing Aflac, he helps individuals and families cover themselves against short-term disability, cancer, and critical care. John Zahry evaluates individuals’ needs as well as their financial position before proposing coverage plans that meet their criteria. He also provides life insurance and business liability policies. A recipient of the Founders Award in 2023, John Zahry is skilled at delivering client-focused solutions and creating long-term relationships.
Mr. Zahry has a BA in sociology from Westmont College. He is a certified firearms instructor, certified Simunition instructor, and holder of multiple management certifications. Beyond his work, he is a member of Knights of Columbus and volunteers with Meals on Wheels.
